As a food coating, SVX can reduce the need for single-use plastics, slow spoilage, reduce food waste disposal, reduce shipping costs, and protect against microbial outbreaks.
About
Seevix’s SVX™ biopolymer, consisting of edible proteins, is vegan, eco-friendly and degradable. It possesses powerful anti-oxidant properties 130 times stronger than vitamin C. It is also strong, elastic, thermally stable and chemically resilient, and through Seevix’s fermentation process, we are able to manufacture SVX at scale. Used as an edible food coating, SVX can: • Significantly reduce the need for polluting, single-use plastics used to wrap foods; • Meaningfully slow spoilage in the food supply chain; • Reduce costly food waste disposal; • Provide alternatives to complex, expensive shipping and storage arrangements involving freezing and cooling; • Protect against dangerous microbial outbreaks, e.g., salmonella and E. coli.
Key Benefits
SVX has been proven in various experiments to provide protection from hydration, oxidation and microbial growth. In preliminary tests, Seevix has demonstrated that SVX can be used to coat food to form an effective protective barrier against spoilage. This, in turn, can lengthen the shelf life of indigenous fruits and vegetables and extend their shipment time without the need for polluting, single-use plastics.
